Q. What should I do in case of
a medical emergency?
A. A medical emergency is the sudden, unexpected onset of a serious condition or
illness.
Examples in Obstetrics and Gynecology include:
- Sudden, severe abdominal or pelvic
pain
- Heavy or unexplained vaginal
bleeding
- Signs of miscarriage or early labor
- Complications of pregnancy
If you are not sure you have an emergency, phone our regular
office number, day or night.
Even if it's after office hours, our answering service will promptly relay your
information to
your doctor or the doctor on call. If you do not receive a
response within 15 minutes please
call back.
Q. When should I call
the office?
A. Call anytime that any problem arises such as: leaking fluid, heavy bleeding or
absent fetal
movement.
Q. Can I fly during
pregnancy?
A. Yes, until you reach 34 weeks.
Q. What can I take for a
cold?
A. Under 12 weeks - Robitussin, Saline nasal spray, Tylenol and lozenges
After 12 weeks - all of the above plus sudafed,
Robitussin Dm or CF, chlortrimetron,
benedryl or afrin nasal spray
Q. Can I use anatacids?
A. Only calcium based, low sodium antacids such as Tums, Rolaids or Mylanta
Q. Can I use the
whirlpool or hot tub?
A. No.
Q. Can I have a dental
x-ray?
A. Routine x-rays should be avoided, you should have one only if absolutely
necessary
and you must be shielded with a lead apron.
Q. Are hair coloring and
perms ok?
A. Only after the first trimester.
